Its main asset was the merchant marine, particularly thriving mid-nineteenth century , at the time of the sailing navy: During this time Seiano had a merchant fleet of 21 ships. The Shrine of Our Lady of Grace Church called Santa Maria della Vecchia (XIII) contains many ex-votos. In addition to the Lamego Lady of Grace there is also a parish church dedicated to St. Mark the Evangelist.
